BitDefender is too invasive IMO. The scanner is good but I've had issues with it in the past slowing things down. I much prefer using Avira as their scanner is just as good and has less of an impact on my system. I get a nag screen once a day or so that pops up in the bottom corner but I just click the X to make it go away.
I should also mention that I believe security should be freely available for personal home use and the free BitDefender is extremely bare bones to the point of not letting you even scan when you choose to. I'm certainly not going to pay for a product every year based on that principle.
